GURPS 1793 is a face-to-face and PBEM roleplaying campaign set in the England of Horatio Hornblower, the Scarlet Pimpernel, Jack Aubrey, and Jane Austen's novels. It is both historical and fantastic.
The Player Characters (PCs) are both male and female, members of a society called "the Secret League of Adventurers." Drawn primarily from upper class British society, the PCs handle espionage, the French terror, murder, and piracy on the high seas, yet must keep their activities secret from the world.
Some members of the League believe their leader is the Prince of Wales. Whoever he is, he has gone to great lengths to keep his identity secret, and to help protect the identities of the League members. Few League members are aware of more than three or four others, and work closely with only their own team.
The game is closed to additional FTF players but new PBEM players are welcome. Please note that the PBEM portion of the game is epistolary -- that is, remote characters correspond with one another via letters. This was a popular way of presenting fiction during this time period, and letter writing was an important part of most people's lives. Please see the guidelines to find out more.
There is a Yahoo! groups account set up for this game. Lurkers are welcome to join!
