Ferret Diet

What you decide to feed your ferrets is very important.  When we first got Gwen and Arthur four years ago, there wasn't much on the market by way of ferret foods. Now there are several choices, but we still feed them Iams Kitten Food, mainly because Arthur is a picky eater and won't tolerate anything else. The most important thing with diet is to be consistent!  Don't experiment with different brands of food every time you buy -- it's difficult on their digestive systems.

We also supplement their diet with Ferretone and small treats, like popcorn or the occasional licking the ice cream bowl, but be careful! Ferrets can't tolerate fiber, which is found in popcorn or fruits and vegetables, and some ferrets (like Gwen) are lactose intolerant and can't handle dairy products. (Gwen's reaction to ice cream is to throw up, so we are very careful!)
