Adventure 2 Summary
"You may call me… Your Grace."

June 5-7, 1793

The game begins with le Comte de Chareau setting off from London. He has received a message indicating that if he does not travel to Canfield Park and await further instructions, a secret of his will be revealed.

A few miles outside of London, he comes across the wreck of a fashionable phaeton. Mr. Marcus Eldon, a well-known Maccaroni and the son of a prominent judge, stands amidst the wreckage. He explains to Chareau that he was on his way to meet with a - wink, wink - very special lady in Kent. Chareau offers his carriage, company, and port to Mr. Eldon, and the two of them set off. They are, in fact, en route to the same estate - Canfield Park.

Once there, Miss Georgiana DuBerry recognizes Mr. Marcus Eldon, when they are introduced - though the name she knows him by is quite different. Jack Dorset has been little more than a servant and messenger to her in the past, passing on encrypted communications for her to decipher - certainly he has never dressed as elegantly as Mr. Eldon in her presence. He surreptitiously passes her a note which reads:

Miss Georgiana,

Forgive my impertinence. In an ideal world, I should not have to resort to such tactics.

Last week, one of our operatives was able to ascertain you brother's whereabouts. He is being held in the Chateau de la Guionniere. I am preparing to mount a rescue operation, but I need your help - do you have a man or two to spare? Any help you can provide will be excessively welcome.

Give me your answer as soon as you can - I will leave straightaway.

Your humble servant,

Jack Dorset

Miss Georgiana tells him that she wishes to help him, and that she can provide him with two men. Mr. Eldon/Dorset is shocked, telling her that he swore to her brother that he would keep her safe. Still, she insists, and he begins to waver in his conviction. They agree to discuss it further in a little while.

Lady Caro is very charmed with the handsome figure of Chareau. Already quite bored with Sir Frederick (whose attentions have been diverted by the lovely Miss Georgiana), she is quite willing to assist him in any way she can. When further instructions arrive for Chareau, it is that he is to meet someone by the burial mounds. Caro happily escorts Chareau to the mound, where Lord Rhys-Davies is digging enthusiastically. He shows Chareau several of the artifacts he has recently discovered.

Several of the men - Warrington, Fenworth, Somerset and Major Warburton - go hunting. Warrington fires, Fenworth fires, Somerset fires, Warburton fires - and then a fifth shot is heard. The Duke of Warrington has been shot in the shoulder! They spot the would-be assassin through the brush, and give chase. They run him down - beating him up quite nicely - and take him back to the house. He's dressed in a scarlet regimental coat, which Fenworth identifies as coming from one of the northern regiments.

On the way to the house, they pass Chareau, Caro, and Rhys-Davies. Fenworth sends Caro away, but Chareau attends to Warrington's wound.

At the house, Lady Frances Sterling, Warrington's aunt, recognizes the man when she happens on the impromptu interrogation. He is Edgar Fromkin, a tenant of Warrington's who is now in the employ of David Murray, the seventh Duke of Warrington's natural son.

A servant brings Chareau another message - he is to be at an inn in Ramsgate by the following evening. Likewise, Fenworth - who has been involved with the League for several years - is told via messenger that he is to meet a man by the name of Jack Dorset at the same inn. Fenworth invites Warrington along.

The next morning, Miss Georgiana sets off, ostensibly for home, though she parts from the rest of her servants and travels with Jack Dorset to Ramsgate. Chareau, whose English estate is in Kent, detours long enough at home to wash the filth of the road and change into fresh clothing before the meeting.

Miss Georgiana, Jack Dorset, Warrington, Fenworth, Warburton and Chareau all meet upstairs in the inn, where Dorset explains they are to travel via a fishing vessel to Calais. After dark, they make their way to the boat in disguise - including Miss Georgiana dressed as a boy! They decide to adopt fake names:

Warrington: Ben Jones, American observing the progress of the Revolution
Fenworth: Jean, a Frenchman
Chareau: Luc, a Frenchman
Miss Georgiana: Georges, a Frenchman
Jack Dorset: Jacques, a Frenchman

Fenworth hears a pounding coming from the hold of the vessel, and he and Warrington go and investigate. It's Lady Caro, who is soaked to the skin. Though she begs her father to allow her to accompany him, Fenworth refuses. While Chareau volunteers to escort Lady Caro home to England, Major Warburton takes that responsibility instead. Caro looks disappointed.

Arriving in Calais, they see the brigantine Jeanette docked. Ben, Jean, Luc, Georges and Jacques make their way to the home of Pierre Masson. This is a long established League safehouse, Jack tells the group.
