Background

Dr. Tyler McBain was quite happy with his career as a research scientist working for a company that helped develop and improve on PRIMUS Cyberline treatment. Everything was going fine, until McBain discovered that one of his fellow scientists was really an undercover VIPER agent.

McBain discovered this in the middle of a VIPER raid on his research facility. With some fast mind work and tricky talking he was able to switch the vials that the VIPER team was stealing. Instead of the Cyberline they thought they were getting, the team came back with a vial of dysentery. This coupled with his exposing the VIPER agent to PRIMUS has resulted in McBain being placed on VIPER's Ten Most Wanted list. McBain went into hiding, moving from Hudson City to San Francisco.

Along the way he completed a high tech armor suit. If VIPER was going to come after him, he wasn't going to be caught unawares. Several months later, McBain had a new job and a new secret life as Knightblade - a superhero member of the Golden Gate Guardians.

Lately, things haven't been going to well for Knightblade. VIPER figured out who he was and attacked him during a reception. He was severely injured and many civilians were killed in the crossfire. PRIMUS has become very suspicious of the doctor and his activities.

Powers and Tactics

Dr. McBain's armor is very high tech. It provides him with added defenses as well as some protection against flash attacks. Hidden inside his gauntlet is an energy sword. This is Knightblade's primary weapon. However, he has been known to use his fists when the need arises.

Personality/ Motivation

Dr. McBain's exact motivations for donning his armored suit are not known. It could simply be self-protection, VIPER is hunting him. However, it is more likely that he is striving to use his abilities to protect those around him from the threat of VIPER and other groups like them. He was probably strongly influenced by his first encounter with them.

Known Haunts

Dr. McBain can usually be found in the company of Dr. Helena Armory or in his lab. He has also been known to visit the superheroine Odyssey. Since the attack by VIPER he has been in the intensive care ward at the hospital.
