Agent
Andrea Canfield, Washington D.C.
Background
The older of two children whose family was split by divorce, Andrea
always did as she was expected. She had seen what happened to women who
bucked tradition: her mother, once a prominent socialite, was shunned
by everyone and banned from seeing her own children after she left her
husband. No one cared that Mrs. Canfield had put up with over a decade
of her husband's philandering and abuse, no one cared that after giving
the man the best years of her life, she had been left with nothing.
Andrea paid
close attention to the model of her mother and vowed it would never happen
to her. She did well in school and better in college, where she met Peter
Linfeld. Two months after graduation they married and moved to New York,
where he would attend law school.
Andrea found
a job and worked for a year before she became pregnant; afterwards, she
quit her job and followed the models of her youth. She gave elegant parties,
she had a nanny, she and Peter took vacations to Europe and the Bahamas
and everywhere else it was fashionable.
Then, when
her daughter was three, she discovered he had been cheating on her and
she did what she had always promised herself she would never do: she followed
the example of her mother and left.
Even a degree
from an Ivy League school isn't enough for a job when you don't have any
skills, but Andrea was determined not to sink into obscurity. She would
show them, all of them: she would succeed, even though she had bucked
tradition and the life her family had chosen for her. She would do better
than her husband, than her father -- she would make a name for herself.
When their
divorce was finalized, halfway through Andrea's six month PRIMUS Academy
course, her husband received custody of their daughter. Though heartbroken,
she was not surprised, and she promised herself that someday she'd be
able to rectify the situation.
It took her
years, but she did, in 1993. By that time the New York City base's VIPER
specialist, Andrea led an investigation which uncovered the identities
of many prominent VIPER supporters -- and discovered that her ex-husband
numbered among them. Though he claimed he had been blackmailed -- he made
many claims during his defense -- Andrea was not terribly shocked by the
news (hadn't she known he was a snake for years-), nor was she shocked
when he received a light sentence for his crimes, for he still had prominent
friends.
But it was
enough to regain custody of their daughter -- sole custody -- and when
offered a position on the new Golden Avenger's staff in Washington, Andrea
and her daughter Caroline left New York for good.
In 1998,
Andrea gave birth to a baby boy, Terrence; though she remains unmarried,
the child is the son of her boyfriend Leon Wallace, a Washington writer.
Combat/Tactics
Andrea discovered a love of martial arts while in the Academy and
has studied Aikido faithfully since. While she isn't eager to engage in
physical combat -- she's been injured several times since beginning at
PRIMUS and hasn't wanted to repeat the experience.
Personality
Andrea is reserved and guarded; she is not good at displaying emotion
to people she does not know well. With her friends, however, she is lively
and laughs openly.
Appearance
Andrea is model thin, with short black hair and large green eyes. People
either tend to find her beautiful or most decidedly not: she is not conventionally
pretty. She is 5'6.
