Silver Avenger Sherri Peters, Washington D.C.
Background It has always been the curse of the Silver Avenger assigned to the Washington D.C. base to be overshadowed by the Golden Avenger. It was true for Kevin Armstrong, the first Silver Avenger posted to the capitol, and it was true for his successor, Sherri Peters. Peters joined PRIMUS in 1988, just out of college. Though it was the intelligence agent program which had interested her, the Cyberline test came back positive -- Sherri was eligible for the process of genetic modification and biofeedback that would improve her combat abilities. Was she interested? Actually, she wasn't. She liked her genetic structure intact, thank you very much, and knew about the program's side effect: she would never be able to have children. Besides which, other than a pest of a younger brother, she'd never even hit anyone before. She told PRIMUS to take a hike and contacted the FBI, who was also aggressively recruiting women at the time. Avenger Armstrong himself became in Sherri's recruitment. The charismatic Avenger negotiated with the powers that be and Sherri was accepted into PRIMUS: as an intelligence agent. Armstrong knew that over time and with exposure, he could persuade Sherri that the Cyberline process was nothing to fear, and over time, he did. Ten months after becoming an intelligence agent, Agent Peters undertook the process: but with one stipulation: she would be a member of the Avenger's agent team from that point forward. Sherri was on the fast track for success, though she didn't know it at the time. In 1991, Kevin Armstrong was killed in combat with VIPER and the nation mourned. Sherri was suspicious, however. Armstrong's house was missing sentimental items; his Citadel class ring was missing from his body and the Avenger had seemed upset and depressed for several months prior to his death. She took her suspicions to the Golden Avenger (then Robert Kaufman), who blew them off. Sherri had little time to investigate, however, for she was selected to replace Armstrong. The process assault agents undergo compared to the Avengers' process is night and day. It takes millions of dollars and months of treatment and physical therapy to produce an Avenger, during which the subject is frequently very ill. By the time Avenger Peters rejoined the Washington DC base, the case on Armstrong's death had been long closed. She soon understood Armstrong's frustrations. Golden Avenger Kaufman was a demanding, petty man who often manipulated situations to appear better. He had not supported her promotion, she discovered later: Jonathan Hawkins himself had. Until his death in 1994, Sherri rarely received credit from any of her investigations. Avenger Johnson, from San Francisco, was chosen to succeed Kaufman. To Sherri's relief, he did not micro-manage her, nor did he ever attempt to claim credit for her work. Though the photogenic Johnson still receives most of the press attention -- something she teases him about mercilessly -- Sherri was content in simply doing her job. Except for one little thing. Sherri married Murray Cochrane, a Washington physician, in 1993, and the two longed for children of their own. In 1995, PRIMUS was forced to admit that the Cyberline process itself did not make agents sterile: the booster treatments given to agents during the Avenger Games (every three months) did. When those treatments stopped, agents would be able to have children. In 1998, Sherri and her husband welcomed their first child, a girl, followed in 2000 by a little boy. Personality She gets along well with the Golden Avenger, though she was wary of him at first. It was Sherri who coined the Avenger's nickname "Sweet Pea" (from his office designation in the Jonathan Hawkins Building, Suite P) and he is a regular at her Friday night poker games.
