David Jonathan Jackson, born in 1955, was destined to be a military man. His grandfather, Alexander Jackson, an Army Air Corps pilot, had fought in both World War I and II. His father, Jeremiah Jackson, was a Navy pilot in the Korean War and in Vietnam. It was just a matter of time before he followed in the long line of military service.

First it was Cub Scouts. Then Boy Scouts. Next followed Civil Air Patrol. He even joined JROTC in junior high. He assumed that he would be a pilot, just because his father and grandfather had been. Then he witnessed the event that would change his life. When he was just fourteen years old, on July 20th, 1969, he watched as Neil Armstrong took "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." To fulfill this dream, David (or DJ as many of his friends called) buckled down in his studies, worked hard on athletics, and maintained an active roll in extra-curricular activities around school. His efforts resulted in an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy. He left his home in San Diego, California, and entered a new phase in his life.

At the Academy, he excelled in all three phases: academics, athletics and military. He graduated in the top ten percent of his class with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Aeronautics. He also was granted a Euro-NATO pilot slot and went to Shepard AFB, Texas for Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT). It was there that he received his call sign, 'Action' from the movie character Action Jackson. He saw a lot of Texas before he graduated from UPT and received an F-15 from the drop. He moved on to Tindall AFB, Florida for follow-on training, and was sent to Lakenheath AB, England for his first assignment. While there, he took many an opportunity to partake of his favorite pastime - sightseeing. He journeyed all over Europe, seeing everything from the Eiffel Tower in France, to the Brandenburg Gate in Germany, to the Coliseum in Italy. He learned to speak French, German, and Italian quickly, in order to appreciate his trips all the more. After a four year tour, DJ found himself transferred back to the States at Langley AFB, Virginia. He took this time to get a Masters Degree in Aeronautics from a local Embry Riddle campus, and do plenty of sightseeing up and down the East Coast.

It was during his next assignment that DJ received his next nudge for space. He was working at the Academy as a T-41 flight instructor, in the mid-to-late eighties when the Challenger accident occurred. He watched in shocked disbelief with the nation as the pride of the U.S. Space Program plummeted to the Earth in a burning wreckage. Afraid that the Space Program might have taken a fatal blow and that he would never get a chance to contribute to America's space effort, DJ quickly applied for a test pilot slot at Edwards AFB, California. With his skills and talent he was a shoe-in for the job. He flew aircraft of all shapes and sizes for four years before he was finally accepted into the astronaut program at Cape Caniveral.

He flew through the preliminary training, where he met Calvin Tekinski. They became good friends and still keep in touch. After loosing Tekinski to the world of the paranormal, DJ was bumped up in the roster and was ready for his first flight in less than a year. He flew the Atlantis on a mission that launched a weather satellite and performed some zero-gee experiments on bacteria growth. A routine mission that was far from routine for DJ. He had achieved his greatest goal. He was an astronaut!

His second mission was even better than the first. In a freak accident, a micro-meteor smashed into the Russian Mir space station and crippled the support systems. Unfortunately, there wasn't time for the Russians to equip and launch the Buran, the Russian equivalent to the Space Shuttle. However, the Endeavor was already in orbit, luckily near-by. In what was touted as the greatest humanitarian event of the decade, and the finest example of international cooperation in space, the crew of the Space Shuttle Endeavor aided the Mir astronauts in jury-rigging the support systems to last long enough for a repair team to be brought out. The '91 mission has often been looked upon as NASA's finest hour. The crew consisted of 2 engineers, 2 pilots, one biochemist, and one genetic researcher. Shawnda Williams, James Nguyen, Jessica Ramirez, David Jackson, Burton Blackwell, and Simon Cassidy were the Deep Space Six that achieved no small amount of notoriety.

As they say, the third time is a charm. And so was DJ's third mission. This was a cool down mission that was supposed to be quick and easy. Repair a downed MilStar communications satellite and come home. However, upon reaching orbit, the clamshell doors on the bay of the shuttle refused to open. DJ was the one who was to work on it. During his extra-vehicular activity (EVA) an unannounced proton event occurred, bombarding the shuttle, and DJ, with charged particles and radiation. While the members on board were fine, with the Shuttle's excellent shielding, DJ was exposed to more than five times the amount of radiation recommended by the U.S. government in a years time span. Ignoring the bay doors, the crew was directed to abort the mission, and return to Earth as soon as possible. Upon landing, each member was subjected to intense tests, but none more so than DJ.

Yet the tests came up negative. Where DJ should have been suffering from the effects, he was in picture perfect health. Stunned and confused, NASA was uncertain as to what was going to happen to DJ. Being afraid of a possibility for future complications, NASA decided to remove DJ from the active pilot roster. He was shuffled to a desk job. There he would remain, never to fly again. However, DJ couldn't stand to work for NASA and never fly another mission. Rather than that torture, he resigned and retired from the Air Force. NASA provided him with a generous bonus, in addition to his retirement bonus, thereby setting DJ up for life.

Now that he was retired, DJ needed to find direction. It was while visiting the Smithsonian Institute that he hit the next major bump in his life. During a visit to the precious gems exhibit, a supervillain named Blackstar broke into the place and began stealing the gems. Blackstar was extremely aggressive, and stood there throwing around security guards and gem cases alike. DJ, in an effort to protect an elderly couple, felt a large case smash against his back. Strange, but while he felt the impact he felt no pain. Shrugging this off as adrenaline, he took advantage of the situation and turned, striking a very surprised Blackstar. Stunned, the villain was unable to protect himself from the onslaught of the enraged DJ. DJ was stunned when his foe fell before him. He looked down and saw he had grown a good six inches, grew in girth, and had turned gray! Surprised, confused, and just a bit frightened, DJ fled the scene immediately. Minutes later, members of the Hudson Hawks arrived to take Blackstar into custody. With the rumors of a new superhero who fled the scene they decided to keep an eye on this newcomer.

DJ went home to think. It took some time, but he finally figured out that he could control his molecular density, thereby increasing his strength, and toughening his body. Convinced that there was a reason he had these powers, DJ went on a spree of stopping petty crime. A purse snatcher here, an AM/PM Mini-mart robbery there, and others. However, he fought no more paranormals. It was when word reached him that Blackstar had escaped, vowing 'Revenge upon that punk who sucker-punched me!" Fearing for those around him, and uncertain as to his methods, DJ decided to make a change to his life. He consolidated his affairs, picked up and moved to the West Coast. Once there, he contacted two old Air Force buddies Jim Maclevoy and John Davidovitch, and decided to open an instructor school. With some of his compensation from NASA, he and the two friends bought three small planes, leased a spot at the airport, and opened up the Gateway to the Sky flight school.

DJ has been living in San Francisco for about six months. He owns half the instructor school, while the other two each own a quarter. With his two friends, he has a large amount of flexibility in his schedule. He lives in a three bedroom house with a black lab named Spice (since she certain has added it to his life!). He drives an Acura, and dates on and off. While monogamous to each woman he dates, he has never been ready to settle down. Now, maybe he is, but any woman he would devote his life to would have the extra baggage of his paranormal powers.

DJ has been keeping up with current events concerning the recent paranormal activity in the city. He is hoping this would be a good point at which to introduce himself to the public. He is normally a very confident person, but he is somewhat worried about his exposure to the spotlight, especially considering what has happened with Odyssey recently. However, he has gained a tremendous amount of confidence from the fact that Calvin Tekinski (Ad Astra) is a prevalent superhero.
